CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (Nov. 17, 2017) — The fifth annual Los Cabos Big Game Charter Boat Classic, the only free-entry fishing tournament on the Baja California Peninsula, entered day three on Thursday as a fleet of 120 boats departed from three ports: Cabo San Lucas, East Cape and San Jose, Mexico. The fishing continued to hold steady with all three categories fulfilled for the second day in a row.

In the dorado division, anglers Paul Davis from Pittsburg, Texas, on Minerva II and Rita Hart from Rosenberg, Texas, on Solmar VI tied for first place with two 15.8-pound entries, each worth $1,367.50. The San Jose fleet got on the board for the first time with a 15.6-pound dorado landed by Rick Streif from Ridgefield, Washington, fishing on Dolphino III for third place and $635.

There was plenty of action again out of San Jose for wahoo on day three. Keith Ross from Layfette, California, won the first place prize of $1,800 for his 31.5-pound fish caught on Jacqueline. Second place and a check for $900 went to Kerry Murray from Cranook, British Columbia, who hauled in a 31-pound catch while also fishing on Jacqueline. Rounding out the top three was angler John Kasser from San Diego, California, weighing a 29-pound fish worth $635 on Fati.

Some sizable tuna made their way to the scales in San Jose and Cabo on day three. Placerville, California angler Daniel Rupley’s 84.7-pounder took top honors and a check for $1,800 on the Azuelo in San Jose. Second place also went to San Jose with Virginia Akers from Grais Valley, California, bringing in a 50.6-pound tuna on Mata Tona for $900 and the top lady angler award for the day. Cabo grabbed third place when Brooks Livingston from Pickerington, Ohio, boated a 48.7-pound fish on 19’s Toy for $635.

Kieran McSween from Middletown, California, was the junior angler winner with a 7.3-pound wahoo caught on Renegade Mike in Cabo.
